This little bottle of sauce (57ml) came to us by an unusual route, but you don’t need to know this, except, unsually we have not had this supplied to us by the manufacturer.

Hot Diggidy Dog - Hot Original Pepper Sauce

Hot Diggidy Dog - Hot Original Pepper Sauce

This sauce comes from a company called Hot Diggidy Dog, which was set up by ex-submariner Simon Llewellyn, and they are based in Barry near Cardiff in South Wales.

The square profile bottles are most unusual as there is no traditional label, instead they are sleeved in a heat shrunk film that acts as the label and the tamper resistant seal. This packaging has lots of advantages and provides a very interesting looking product, the only problem is that you cannot see what the sauce looks like, it colour and consistency, except through the bottle of the bottle, not a big problem and it really does look good.

There is not a significant smell from the sauce, nothing to odd or unusual, makes a bit of a change, the flavour is also not in the extreme range, but it has a good strong peppery flavour, while the use of White Wine Vinegar makes this very smooth on the tongue, and the addition of mustard, again add to the flavour without making this a mustard sauce.

The sauce is a smooth light consistency with no significant bits floating it it, it has a light red/orange colour, and packs a fair kick, it is well ahead of Tabasco sauce in terms of heat, and leaves a good glow in the mouth, very enjoyable.

Ingredients: White Wine Vinegar, Chillies 22%, Water, Sugar, Corn Flour, Mustard Powder (Contains Mustard), Salt

There is a great little feature on the side of the bottle  that show how much sauce is left in the bottle and at about 50% it reminds you to “Add to shopping list” and then again at 10%ish “Time to buy another bottle“.

All things considered this is great little bottle of sauce, the size is ideal to slip into your pocket to zing up what ever needs it, I am away this week and I think this bottle will be coming with me.

Unfortunately, we cannot find this sauce for sale anywhere!, there isn’t much information on the companies web site www.doggidy.com either, so have no idea of what a bottle cost and therefore value for money or even where you can buy this rather nice little bottle of sauce. We will update this review once we know more!

We do know that 5p from each sale gets donated to the “Help for Heroes” charity, as this is on the side of the bottle.

Hey Chile Foundry, thanks for the review! The sauce is now available to buy on our website http://www.doggidy.com/ all the prices are on there. The bottle featured in this post is £1.99 but we also have three other products including a 300ml bottle for real hot-heads! As Andrew has pointed out above they are indeed available in Welsh supermarkets, Tesco, ASDA and a few others around the Cardiff and South Wales areas. We’ve also got loads of content on the website now including blogs so take a look! Thanks again.

They sell this at the local tesco in wales, probably a welsh only supply chain like they usually do for regional foods
