The Chilli Pepper Company

Chilli Fiesta 2015This year was the 20th anniversary West Dean Chilli Fiesta, I had my first stall at the 18th, and but for a very few have been to most of them since then, we have not had a stall for a few years. I think our thanks must go to Jim Buckland and Sarah Wain who co-founded the Chilli Fiesta and without whom we would not have such the thriving UK chilli market.

The event this year was again over 3 days, we visited on what was one very hot and busy day, the event has grown and now with more campers and a extended nights entertainment with the main stage being open till 9pm and then thins move to the Cabaret Tent till 11pm. The Sunday is a little shorter with the main stage closing at 7:30pm and the Cabaret tent finishing at 9pm. The produce stalls all close at 6pm expect for the food stall around the main stage area

Display Chillies at West Dean 2015There is lots to see during the day with live music on the main stage starting at noon, as well can lots of cookery demonstrations and gardening chat sessions, if you are unlucky enough to do to the glass houses you can still see some pages from my book, The Hot Book of Chillies, being used as part of the display.. it is getting a bit old now, but hopefully they will use some of the new books pages next year..

With nearly 180 stalls, not all selling chilli products this event is the biggest in the UK, you can see around 250 different varieties of chillies.

We had a great day out visiting all our old friends and seeing some new additions to the event including. Mushemi Fire, Thousand Hills, TTaste, East Coast Chilli Company and Barfoots Sorry if we have missed out any other new arrivals.

We cannot recommend this event more highly, make sure it is on your list for next year.

The Chilli Pepper Company Free Seeds Offer

The Chilli Pepper Company is based in Cumbria and run by Gerald Fowler, the man behind the Naga Viper Chilli which held the World Record for the hottest chilli. If you pay Ged’s site a visit you will find all manner of chilli related powders, extreme products, chilli seeds, chutneys and chilli sauces.

Now with Christmas in mind Ged has converted some of his more popular sauces into smaller 50ml bottles with funky new redesigned labels which I am very impressed with. They come in handmade wooden boxes, something I have not seen before.

The 5 sauces given the update are Naga Viper, Scorpion King, El Diablo, The Beast and 5 minute Burn (not pictured)

The wooden racks are nicely made and have a thin dowel which is removable allowing the sauces to be released. The website only lists different box sets of two sauces, and these are priced at £7/£8 depending on which set you want. You can also buy all 5 in a hamper for £15.

They are available from The Chilli Pepper Company right now and would make a great stocking filler for the chilli head in the family.

Here we have a new addition to the Chilli Festival Events for 2013, being held at Holker Hall, Cark-in-Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria. Here are the guys to give more information:

“We are delighted to be organising a Chilli Festival at Holker Hall on the weekend of the 28th & 29th September 2013. Holker Hall and Gardens is a fantastic venue, with a track record of holding successful events ranging from our annual Garden Festival with crowds of over 20,000 to our popular local producers markets.

We are being assisted by The Chilli Pepper Company Ltd to establish this as a successful event, following their previous involvement with the Lakes Chilli Festival held at nearby Levens Hall.(Please note we have been informed by the owners of Levens Hall that the event will no longer be held there due to parking/traffic movement issues in bad weather).

We are arranging a two day Festival with entertainment, cookery demonstrations, chilli eating competition and children’s activities. We are inviting specialist chilli companies from around the country, local specialist food suppliers and a range of on-site catering featuring cuisines from around the world.

We are experienced at handling and parking large numbers of vehicles and all the stalls will be located on hard standing to try and make provision, as far as possible, for any poor weather.  Unfortunately we cannot offer camping facilities.

Entrance will be £6 per adult with free entry for children in order to maximise numbers, discounted advance tickets will also be available through our website.

There is a great demand for an event of this kind in the North West and we look to build on the previous success in Cumbria.

Space is limited so if you would like to book a stall please contact us at or call 015395 58328
