Curry with Love

Curry with Love

Well here it is my chilliheads, Scooby here again and looking forward to Curry night. Without a doubt the best night of the week. One slight problem though, payday is not till next week , No curry house for me then. OOOOOOOOHHH, how about curry in a jar?  Not the same, not always great authentic flavour and half the time full of junk. Guess that means no curry for me today then. Well at least that is what I thought until I caught a glorious aroma of herbs and spices whilst taking a stroll through Bury St Edmunds Market Saturday). I finally stumbled across a company called Curry-with-love.

Curry-with-love is a mother and daughter combo that has been running since November 2011 and has made many a happy customer. Offering an all in curry in a bag of fresh ingredients tailored to your individual heat requirements (online customers only). I tried their Ceylon and Madras on the stall and all I can say is, GOODYBYE CURRY HOUSE. These curry packs are out of this world and after 6 years of planning you can see that this preparation has clearly paid off. The idea having being thought up by Co-owner Clare whilst finding herself struggling to find a decent curry at a decent price with none of the artificial rubbish you find in many, as well as removing the sometimes awful price tag.

Starting off with 8 curries, their menu now expands to 11 curries, with 3 sides and rice. Each of which are hand blended each week to guarantee freshness. Each of the packs comes with list of ingredients and recipe for the dish. The menu at present consists of:

Curry with Love - Ceylon

Curry with Love - Ceylon

Curries:

  • Balti  – Medium
  • Ceylon – Medium-hot
  • Vindaloo – Hot
  • Madras  – Medium-hot
  • Aloo Gosht – Medium
  • Goan Curry – Mild
  • Tikka Masala  – Mild
  • Curry with Love  – Medium
  • Bhuna – Medium
  • Dhansak  – Mild
  • Jalfrezi  – Mild-Medium

Sides:

  • Spicy potatoes and spinach,
  • Garlic and chilli lentils,
  • Lightly spiced spinach and tomatoes.

Our aim is to provide our customers with fresh, authentic curry kits that require no chopping, no mess and no fussClare at Curry-with-love

And this is so true. The kits I find are extremely easy to use and superb in every aspect of aroma and flavour, and the step by step instructions are simply to the point.

The kits are at present selling for £3.75 each or 3 for £10. A no brainer if you ask me. Order 3 packs you get a free side. Order 6 and you get a side and rice. CRAZY!!

Although this company is very young it is showing to be extremely popular. Huge queue to battle through at the market they are doing extremely well.

So with that my chilliheads I put it to you. I challenge you to find a better, fresher, more pleasing to the tastebud curry than this. I am more than happy to put my name beside this company and it ticks all the right boxes for me.

Give the guys a look at www.curry-with-love.co.uk and don’t forget to say where you heard it from first.

Remember, if it burns going in, it will burn coming out.

Suffolk Food Hall

Suffolk Food Hall

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, I bring to you today the meat of all meats, the sausage to end all sausages. Oh yes, this is ‘The famous Beef Splendour’ from www.suffolkfoodhall.co.uk. The Suffolk food hall is Situated in the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB next to the River Orwell. The Food Hall is just two miles south of Ipswich and is conveniently located within minutes of the A14 / A12 and has been open since 2007 and has quickly become a centre of excellence for local produce. With its fishmongers, Cheese, homebaked cakes, garden centre, restaurant and of course my favourite area, the Butchers.

I came across this sausage when my folks were on their weekly visits to the food hall and noticed these ‘Chilli sausages’ and knowing they have a crazed chilli head in the family thought these would be right up my street. You can see in the picture that these are not a small sausage. It is 6oz of a taste sensation. After speaking with the team it soon comes to light that this is not made by sticking a few things into a pot and seeing what happens. A lot of care and attention have gone into the preparation of this. Fresh selected ingredients and Beef that is second to none.

Ingredients: Dry Aged Suffolk Beef, Small amount of rusk to hold in the juice and flavour from the fat, Ground and Cracked Black Pepper, Ginger,  Chilli Flakes, Cumin, Tomato Puree, Ugandan Scotch Bonnets, Fresh Coriander Chopped.

Half the meat is minced on a big mince plate and the other half on a standard plate, to give a full on meaty texture whilst allowing the rest of the ingredients to be thoroughly mixed in.

Beef and Scotch Bonnet Sausages

Beef and Scotch Bonnet Sausages

Now the flavour on these is unreal. I was a little dubious about these when I first heard about them as many chilli sausages I have had in the past, to be honest, have not been great. But this ticks all of the right boxes and more. You get a wonderful beefy aroma the second you cut into it followed by a glorious Scotch bonnet nose. The taste is spot on with all of the flavours playing their part giving you a powerful beef and scotch bonnet flavour which stays with you while the pepper, ginger and spices mingle to give a beautiful taste that forces you take have another bite. The heat from the chilli is wonderful even for a non chilli lover as it is not a blow your head off heat. It works perfectly.

Texture is another winner here as yet again, this is not an ordinary sausage. Truly a beefy texture which as you can see from the ingredients, has been aimed for by using two separate mincing plates. Now I ask you, who do you know that puts this much care and attention into making a sausage? Well I can tell you now, this is a first for me. Awesome in every sense of the word.

To pick up some of these culinary delights please visit the team at the Suffolk Food Hall or buy online at www.suffolkfoodhall.co.uk. You will not be disappointed and at £9.99/kg, you really get your moneys worth. Truly a big eat.

Magma Before and After!

Magma Before and After!

To my fellow Chilliheads, I fear this may be my last review. Not by choice, but judging by the ingredients of this sauce I am reviewing today I think it could be the end of Scooby. Judge for yourself, look at whats in this bottle of pure evil.

Ingredients: Vinegar, Water, Salt & Oleoresin of Capsicum.

Bottle kindly provided by Hot-Headz

Don’t know about you but I am sweating and close to tears just reading this. You’d be forgiven if you thought by looking at the bottle that it is a harmless bottle of sauce that claims to be hot. I did on first glance, I mean you can see straight through the bottle and the sauce, no texture to it at all. Pah! Girls stuff this. O but wait, turn the bottle upside down or give it a shake then the panic kicks in. Oleoresin bursts into life and the magma suddenly seems to resemble something that Satan dreamt up. The bottle now looks like a lava lamp the way the oleoresin climbs to the top. My new concern is that Lava lamps are extremely hot when they work and take ages to heat up, this you just turn upside down.

Time to take the plunge and see what this sauce has to offer. Well to start I can barely smell anything. Not sure if I sure be relieved or not. There is the faintest aroma of vinegar there but nothing to put you off the sauce. Time to man up and try this out, here we go, see you on the other side.

I am on fire. This sauce is unreal. My stomach is bubbling and moving, I cannot stop hiccupping and crying. The heat is unreal and the burn is hitting every part of my mouth and lips and tongue. Lips feel like they are glowing and the longer the burn stays the more I can feel it sneaking down my throat. Texture no thicker than water and the flavour is mainly of the vinegar but not a great deal of it which is great. There is also not a great amount of bitterness from the oleoresin which I was expecting. I strongly recommend using this one drop at a time in cooking and not consumed straight. This will blow your head off. On a good note I’m still breathing.

This sauce can be found at www.hot-headz.com for £5.99. Not the cheapest of sauces for its size but you get your value for money from the heat. This will last you forever and a day I reckon. Just one drop will ignite even the mildest of dishes.

So guys, buy this and see if can take the heat 😀 and remember, if it burns going in, it will burn coming out.

OMG!!!! This stuff is simply amazing. First time I have tried a product from Chillilicous but I will without a doubt be buying more from these guys if this one is anything to go by. The jar is a standard 200g jam jar and to be quite frank, who cares. Its all about the chutney. Label and packing is nice and simple with the Chillilicious logo and flowery topper. But OMG the chutney!

Chillilicious Red Pepper Chilli Chutney

Chillilicious Red Pepper Chilli Chutney

Pulpy red and orange chutney glowing warmly through the jar and the smell is o so sweet. You’ve guest it my friends, its all about this amazing, warming beautiful chutney. I know what your thinking, Scooby is going over the top with this review and bigging up this product beyond belief. But I am not. This truly is spectacular.

Ingredients: Red peppers (39%), Apples (19%), Onions (19%), Sultanas, Sugar, White Wine Vinegar, Salt, Peppercorns, Apache chillis.

Jar kindly provided by Chillilicous

No expectations of this being extreme hot as the Apaches I believe are about 70,000 to 80,000 SHU. Plenty of sweetness in here by the look of things. The smells suggests sweet, but slight concern over the amount of onion originally as quite a high quantity. Strangely though this is not an issue.

Vinegar????? No sign of it in the taste. Onion???? So mild you cannot even tell that its there. Sultanas, apples and red peppers provide a texture to die for and a flavour second to none. ITS ALL ABOUT THE CHUTNEYYYYY. The heat is extremely mild but the Apaches give a great flavour blending perfectly with the sweetness in this. I’m currently getting through these with a large box of mini cheedars. They go like peas and carrots, Bonnie and Clyde, Chilli and…. Erm….. Well chilli with everything really. This is amazing.

You can get a jar of this from www.chillilicious.co.uk for a crazy £3.10. But to all my chilliheads out there, when you order, make sure you tell them you read Scooby’s review. (Then maybe I can get a discount when I order and get loads and loads of this hehe)

Very versatile chutney and will be a real treat for anyone. Get some in and enjoy. This is truly and all year round product. Spot on!

Remember my chilliheads, if it burns going in, it will burn coming out.
