Levi Roots - X Hot Reggae Reggae Sauce

Now what we have here is a products that is just about to be released (it may be in the shops by the time this is published), the packaging has a label on the back reminding us that this is a sample and that the packaging is not the final release. Now I have been supplied with a bottle of the original sauce which Darth reviewed back in 2009.

Now comparing this list of ingredients to the original the one thing that jumps up the list is the chillies, before 7th on the list was Scotch Bonnet Chillies, this time they are 5th on the list with a 5%.

Ingredients: Water, Sugar, Barley Malt Vinegar, Tomato Puree, Red Scotch Bonnet Chillies (5%), Onion, Salt, Modified Maize Starch, Garlic Puree, Ginger Puree, Allspice, Black pepper, Spring Onion, Paprika, Mixed Herbs, Coriander, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Basil, Thyme.

Bottles kindly supplied by Roots’ Reggae Reggae Sauce Limited

On opening the bottles the new X Hot version smell hotter, it is just slightly lighter red in colour, but my noise is warning me this will have a bit more bite to it. First taste and this is living up to the X Hot label, a dip in the original to compare and the flavour is the almost the same, the original is just a little sweeter, but the X Hot has that extra kick that we crave.

I liked the original, it goes great on bbq’d chicken and used as a pizza topping it was fantastic, now I am converted to the X Hot version, this has that jerk style we like in the original but with the boost of the extra Scotch Bonnet’s to fullfill the promise.

I hope we see this in the supermarkets very soon, and Domino’s you need to relaunch that Reggae Raggae Pizza with this sauce on it, it will be a big hit, we have reviewed a few Levi Roots products in the past few years, but this one is up with the original product in terms of pleasure to review.

If you want to read Darth Naga’s original review then click here, we believe that you can now get this in Sainsburys or at least very very soon it will cost about £1.65 a bottle and that is a prices it is hard to compete with.
