Wahaca - Smoky Chipotle Chile Sauce

Wahaca - Smoky Chipotle Chile Sauce

We picked this sauce up on our recent trip to one of the Wahaca Resturants in the Westfield shopping complex, during our meal we used the De Arbol and the Habanero Sauces which we all really liked. All three sauces are now available in Sainsburys.

On opening the bottle, the smell is not as strong as I expected, I get hints of chipotle carried by the vinegar but not as much as I was expecting. First taste is also a bit disappointing, the sauce tastes a little watery, the flavours are there but they are not intense enough.

A few more spoon and I am starting to get the smokey flavour, but this sauces would be lost if used as a condiment, and used it cooking you normally use a sauce with a strong flavour as it is going to be diluted.

Ingredients: Water, Onion, Chipotle Puree (7.5%) (Smoked Red Jalapeño Chilli, Salt), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Rice Vinegar, Maize Starch, Garlic (2%), Spices (Cumin, Smoked Paprika), Herbs (Oregano, Thyme), Salt, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder.

A very odd sauce from Wahaca, chipotle sauces are normally packed with that smokey warmth, this one just doesn’t do it for me, maybe I have been spoilt..

The sauce comes in a standard 150ml, and at the moment you can pick up these sauces in Sainsburys for £1.32 (Reduced from £1.99), I think I would give the Chipotle  miss, but the other two where excellent and well worth trying and at £1.32 you don’t have much to lose.
