Olives Et Al are based in the Dorset just down the road from us at Sturminster Newton. At their factory they process olives making some delicious olive based concoctions, but I suspect you probably did not know they have their own kiln roaster that they use to make a range of nut and seed products.

Olives Et Al - bayou nuts

Well we have got our hands on a jar of their bayou nuts, this is a mixture of peanuts, cashews and almonds with a cajun style mix of garlic, chilli and herbs or so they tell us..

The jar opens with a very satisfying pop, and it is filled to the very top, no settlement in transit here (always annoys me when the packet is only 1/2 full). The contents smells of the garlic and nuts and while there are a few peanuts, this is a good honest mix of the three.

The nuts have a random coating of the spice mixture, I would guess it sticks best to the Almonds from the look of it, all the nuts are crunchy and mostly whole, there is no doubt they have select  good quality nuts.

Ingredients: Nuts  91% (Peanuts, Almonds, Cashews), Demerara Sugar, Garlic, Salt, Black Pepper, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Paprika, Chilli, Oregano, Thyme.

The flavour is most strongly of Garlic with a background of warmth from the chillies and the odd buzz from the back pepper, the chilli warms build a little, but never gets to a burn, so unfortunately everyone will enjoy these if given a chance, that is if I pass them around.

At £4.00 for a 160g jar, there are not cheap, but you do have to pay for quality and this is a quality product  from a small producer that has made the effort, Well done to Giles and his team.
