Arturo's Big Island Hot Sauce

Arturo's Big Island Hot Sauce

Hello chilli heads, Scooby back again. Back with a rather exotic looking hot sauce, probably due to the fact that its made in Hawaii but there we go. The sauce is from the guys at www.hotsaucehawaii.com and is called Big island hot sauce. Lehua honey and 5 spice hot sauce.

This comes in a standard shaped 148ml clear bottle with a an image of erupting lava to and a sprig of some exotic plant thrown in for good measure just in case you thought this sauce was from one of the ice caps or somewhere else stupid like that.

Taking a look through the bottle the sauce takes on a dark but mildly translucent appearance to it that allows you to see some of the ingredients swimming about inside. It seems to be a very loose sauce, one that you could easily mistake for being a vinaigrette viscosity and look.

Ingredients: Sugar, Water, Plum Sauce (sugar, PlumPulp, Vinegar, Salt, Ginger, Chilli and Garlic) Rice Vinegar, Vinegar, Honey, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat Gluten, Soy Beans, Salt, Sugar) Sea Salt, Habanero Chiles, Salt, Chinese Five Spice (Anise, Cinnamon, Star Anise, Cloves, Ginger) Ginger Concentrate, Lemongrass.

Upon opening the bottle I am greeted with a very familiar and welcoming smell, Hoisin sauce. This takes prominence in the list of ingredients as well as aroma, and I would at a guess say that is what I shall get when I taste it. Take a big sniff now and my nose tingles with a mild chilli sensation.

Down the hatch it goes. BOOM, plum sauce hit straight away. Granted it is ever so slightly sweeter with the honey in it which is definitely an improvement in my eyes. The warmth that follows is a warmth that I am sure will please even the non chilli lovers amongst us. I know I know, there is such a crazy person out there who does not like chilli. But still this sauce I feel would interest them. I would use this sauce next time I have my duck pancakes as a replacement as this is an awesome tasting sauce. The heat is so mild and the flavour so intense and wonderful that I would not have any trouble in eating this with any meal in large amounts. Good bye tommy sauce for me from now on, this has got the edge for me in a big way. I cannot explain how amazing I find the flavours.

You can buy this sauce from www.hot-headz.com for a mere £3.99 and if your not quick they will sell out as this stuff is awesome. Without a doubt a sauce to use daily.

So until next time guys, remember, if it burns going in, it’ll burn coming out.
