The Wiltshire Chilli Farm - Habanero Gold

The Wiltshire Chilli Farm - Habanero Gold

I’m a big fan of chilli jam, we have it on everything.. chips, pizza, pasta, curries, veggie kebabs ..i’ve even tried it on ice cream!

So after a trip to Wiltshire delivering plants, I stopped back at the Wiltshire chilli farm for a chat with Jamie and a mooch around his polytunnels.

I like his ethos of using only “own grown chillies” in his products. Something I feel we should all try and do. “Grow you own” always tastes better than “import your own”, although I appreciate it is not that easy.

Anyway, I managed to stock up on a rather good selection of products including this Habanero Gold chilli jam.

It is supplied in a 227g jar and I like the labelling, easy to read and very eye-catching. My one criticism would be that the words “hot jam” needs to be on the front panel of the hex jar.

Upon opening there is a definite aroma of Apricots and a hint of onion. The jam is quite thick but packed full of little chunks of onion and red pepper and of course specks of Habanero Orange chillies in the mix.

The flavour is excellent. An initial sweet taste of the apricots and peppers is soon overtaken by the Habanero, leaving quite a nice kick but not to overpower the other ingredients.

This jam leaves a fruity aftertaste and is not bitter but again not oversweet. I would guess some attempts have been made to get the flavour and balance just right. It was well worth perservering as the taste is superb.

Ingredients : Sugar, Cider Vinegar, Apricots, Red Peppers, Red Onions, Apple Pectin, Habanero Chillies.

At £3.75 a jar, it is not cheap. However you get what you pay for and this is a very good example of a proper well made chilli jam.
