Mr Vikki's - Chipotle Sauce

Mr Vikki's - Chipotle Sauce

From the misty mountains of the Lake District, Mr Vikki concocts his devilish sauces of delight and today I was able to try his most flavoursome Chipotle Sauce. Mr Vikki is renowned for making great tasting sauce, so the pre-opening wasn’t without a trickle of excited anticipation.

Cracking the security and finally removing the top delivered the reward of a smoky BBQ aroma, not subtle but not overpowering – enough to get the taste-buds bubbling for the flavours and heat about to be experienced. Looking at the sauce, which was quite thick to pour, it did seem to contain quite a lot of seeds (something that can be off-putting), but the inviting odours are just too much to resist.

Ingredients: Chipotle Chilli 50%, Tomatoes, Sugar, Spices, Salt, Pepper.

The initial taste is mouth-watering; so very sweet with an overriding hickory BBQ tang and lingering tomatoes to savour. The heat comes in in an underlying way, enough to know it’s a chilli sauce but not so much to put off those who don’t appreciate the throat decimating super-sauces. Indeed, Mr Vikki’s Chipotle Sauce is a superb ketchup replacement, easily usable as an everyday sauce on baked-beans, burgers and bangers. With 150ml for the princely sum of £3.50 it’s rip-roaringly good value.

Mr Vikki’s Chipotle is a supremely delectable sauce that any fan of the Chipotle BBQ style will enjoy. It’s not a hot one and there is a fairly high seed content, but it has a taste to die for and comes heartily recommended. In fact, I think I’ll have another spoonful now.
