Dartmoor Chilli Farm - Extreme Apple Chilli Chutney

Apples, Onions  and Sultanas always seem to be at the heart of a good chutney recipe, and in this Chutney, they are the main ingredients, but further down the list is the Bhut Jolokia and at 8% it is going to make this a very hot product. The question is will any other flavours survive.

This is the hottest chutney they produce, and on opening it smell great very distinctive of Bramley apples and a little Christmas spices. The chutney is a light brown colour and nice and thick.

The initial taste is a cooling smooth apple chutney with a delicate flavour, nice pieces of onion and apple, and then slowly the Bhut Jolokia take hold, but not as fast as I had expected, I still had time to enjoy the flavours and the warming sensation and then slowly the burn recedes and it is time for another spoon full.

Ingredients: Bramley Apples 45%, Onion, Sultanas (Vegetable Oil), Spiced Malt Vinegar, Bhut Jolokia Chillies 8%, Mixed Spices, Ground Ginger, Coriander.

Jar kindly supplied by the Dartmoor Chilli Farm

This is a surprising chutney, I had expected a bit of pain during this review, but instead I have really enjoyed the experience, I think I have really tasted the flavour of the Bhut Jolokia without the pain. The chutney is hotter than most but still retains a flavour that can be enjoyed without having to be over macho.

This is suitable for Vegan and Vegetation diets  and at only £3.25 for a 210g jar it offers pretty good value for money.

This will be on my Christmas list of must have items, I know it is far to early to discuss Christmas, but it is not my fault, this chutney just reminds me of the happy times to come, with minced pies and cold meats….
