Dan started making salsa’s at home and in 2004 he won a Amateur Scovie award, since then he has won numinous other awards. On his web site www.fireroast.com he talks about his magic ingredients fire roasted tomatoes, and the decisions he made when moving to manufactured product, Daniel’s aim to maintain the quality at he achieved in his home kitchen, so after much testing he kept away from processed and preserved ingredients using only fresh ingredients.

Daniel's Fire Roast - Black Bean & Corn Salsa

Daniel's Fire Roast - Black Bean & Corn Salsa

On opening the jar the smell is very strongly of tomatoes and onions, in the salsa are pieces of corn, beans and finely diced of onions in a rich tomato sauce, it looks very appetising. The first taste is of the tomatoes, and then to still crunchy corn, then the warmth and flavour comes in from the Jalapeños, it is one of the best salsa I have tasted that has not been freshly made in a kitchen just a few minutes ago.

Ingredients: Diced Tomatoes, Fresh Onions, Tomato Puree (Tomato Paste, Water), Black Beans, Corn, Fresh Jalapeño Peppers, Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Sugar, Distilled Vinegar, Salt Dehydrated Garlic, Cilantro, Chipotle Peppers, Natural Flavour.

Jar kindly provided by www.hot-headz.com.

Black beans are often called Black Kidney Beans in the UK but you many find them called black turtle beans, they are very popular in Caribbean and South American cooking, they are part of Brazil’s national dish Feijoada.

The black beans add to the texture, giving this a real TexMex Southwestern BBQ , helped by the smoke from the Chipotles. next time I made some salsa at home I will try roasting the tomatoes on the BBQ first.

You get a 454g jar for £3.99 which while no cheap, the quality of this salsa is exceptional, I love it, I want more, I think what is left will become part of today lunch.
