Stagg Chili Dynamite Hot

Stagg Chili Dynamite Hot

I did wonder when I read the label and it said “Shaped minced beef with kidney beans in a hot chili sauce“, Umm Shaped Mined beef, wonder that that is..

Other than that the ingredients list look OK, no E numbers of things I don’t want to see if my Chili

I did try to look at the UK web site listed on the can www.staggchili.co.uk, but got a string of host errors, so visited the US site www.staggchili.com and discovered they sell a product also called “Stagg Chilli Dynamite Hot Chilli Con Carne” but their version has a extra tag line at the bottom “Ignited by Habanero Peppers”, on the left of the label on the UK can is a picture of some Red/Orange Habanero’s but they seem to have been missed of the ingredients list.

Ingredients: Water, Beef (23%), Beans (Kidney and Pinto Beans) (22%), Tomatoes, Tomato Puree, Onion, Red and Green Peppers, Red and Green Jalapeno Peppers, Sugar, Chili Powder, Modified Starch, Spices, Salt, Garlic, Vegetable Oil.

I have emptied the tin into a bowl and it is warming in the microwave.. I now know what shaped minced beef is, it looks like little nuggets of meat, but the texture is a bit soft and and there is no texture to it..

The taste is not anywhere as near as bad as I was expecting, I could not find any Jalapeno flavour, but I think they used a lot of Cayenne pepper in the chilli powder, the gravy and beans all worked well for me, I just think I would not have missed the beef at all.

If I was camping, this may make it into my shopping list, the flavour was not bad, not a lot of depth to it, I do add a lot of stuff in mine when I make it (my own dried celery powder, dark Chocolate and tortilla chips to thicken it).

So to conclude.. Does not taste that bad, but it would be a lot better with proper bits of meat in it or some real minced beef, I could even attempt to pass this off as my own with that odd looking stuff in it.. it’s also not that cheap at £1.64 per tin, I ate a whole tin for lunch, so that is £1.64 X 4 = £6.56 for a family.

The texture to me felt a bit like liver, which worked me as I’m pregnant! They’d have to state if it was though right? Other than that, I loved it. The dynamite hot is beautiful!!
