Stuart from Hot-Headz has been making enquiries to make sure his imported sauces are going to make it into the EU after the confusion over the 1334/2008 EC Regulation.

It seems to be good news for importers except if you are importing products that include “Pure Capsaisin” otherwise there are no restrictions for the use of flavouring preparations (e.g. essential oils, oleoresins) which naturally contain Capsaicin.”

This information came from Matt Purkiss (Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner ) for the City of London Port Health Authority.

So Hot-Sauce importers will need to carefully check the ingredients labels and get conformation from the manufacturers of the presence of “Pure Capsaisin” in any product..

Note: I have no idea how you would test for this.
