Mezzetta Sliced Tamed Jalapeño Peppers

Mezzetta Sliced Tamed Jalapeño Peppers

Giuseppe Luigi Mezzatta arrived in the USA from Italy in 1913, in 1935 with his son Daniel he started a business selling imported speciality foods around San Francisco, the business is still a family run business now based in the Napa Valley.

So what the heck is a Tamed Jalapeño? – Well Its a hybrid of the Jalapeño and the bell Pepper, developed at Texas A&M University, the idea was to provide the flavour and texture of a Jalapeno but with less heat (I know what heat..).

Ingredients: Jalapeño Peppers, Water, Distilled Vinegar, Sea Salt, Firming Agent, Calcium Chioride, Natural Flavouring and Turmeric.

So what is a good use for a mild heat Jalapeño , well .. they taste great, mild but full of that unique Jalapeño flavour, Ideal for a deli style sandwich with some roast beef. They have lots a little of the texture but still make a good replacement for fresh Jalapenos if needed.

This jar came from Waitrose and is imported by Bespoke Food Ltd, if you visit the Mezzeta website, you can find recipes and other information about their range.

If you don’t have a Waitrose nearby you can order them online at

My husband and I go thru at least one jar a month. We love them. We usually eat them with grilled cheese sandwiches, salads, hamburgers and much more, but those are our favorite things to eat with them. We eat them right out of the jar like pickle chips. Yum, yum.
