Giuseppe Luigi Mezzatta arrived in the USA from Italy in 1913, in 1935 with his son Daniel he started a business selling imported speciality foods around San Francisco, the business is still a family run business now based in the Napa Valley.
So what the heck is a Tamed Jalapeño? – Well Its a hybrid of the Jalapeño and the bell Pepper, developed at Texas A&M University, the idea was to provide the flavour and texture of a Jalapeno but with less heat (I know what heat..).
Ingredients: Jalapeño Peppers, Water, Distilled Vinegar, Sea Salt, Firming Agent, Calcium Chioride, Natural Flavouring and Turmeric.
So what is a good use for a mild heat Jalapeño , well .. they taste great, mild but full of that unique Jalapeño flavour, Ideal for a deli style sandwich with some roast beef. They have lots a little of the texture but still make a good replacement for fresh Jalapenos if needed.
