Holy Cow – Mango & Chilli BBQ

The Holy Cow Food Company is one of the UK’s most interesting sauce companies, their sauces are not the usual run of the mill flavours, they always have an interesting extra twist, they have managed to successfully sell in to the supermarkets (ASDA, Sainsbury’s and soon in Budgens), they also have a big and loyal following in twitter.

Their sauces are not on the extreme end of the heat range usable by the whole family.

The smell of this sauce is just idyllic, the first thing I can smell is mint ( this just shows how little dried mint you need to use as it is the last ingredient in the list), then the sweet mango takes over, I could be sitting on a warm beach BBQ’ing chicken with the kids.

Ingredients: Water, Mango (17%), Sugar, Tomato Paste Concentrate (6%), Cornflour, Tamarind Concentrate, Sprit Vinegar, Salt, Chilli Powder, Garlic Powder, Garam Masala (Coriander, Cumin, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Ginger, Star Aniseed, Green Cardamom, Pimento, Black Cardamom, Bay Leaves), Mustard Seed, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Colour (Caramel Sugar Syrup, Paprika Extract), Habanero Chilli Puree (Habanero Chilli Puree, Salt, Acidity Regulator: Acetic Acid) Dried Mint.

The sauce is a mid brown colour with a good thick consistency its great for pouring on the piece of BBQ chicken, the taste is full of flavour it starts with the mint and then the sweet mango and black pepper from the Garam Masala and finally a bit of warmth from the Habanero puree, there is no nasty after taste, this is an all natural quality sauce.

I am really enjoying trying this sauce, my mind is wandering about how to use it.. Roasted Chicken BBQ sauce sandwich, Chicken kebabs……

What can I say, this is a case when we need to get past the snobbery of buying a sauces from the supermarket and enjoy these excellent sauces, at about £1.50 per bottle this stuff could not be better value, you are getting a lot of sauce for the ££.

You can find your local stockist at www.holycowfc.com as well as recipes, user forum etc etc
