The Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival 2010

The Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival 2010

Now in its second year the The Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival was a bit of a surprise, we did not expect to see so many people, the event is held at Manor Farm in Upton Cheyney about half way between Bristol and Bath.

After a quick tour around my first stop was for an excellent cup of tea and cake, before a trip around the poly tunnels to see what was growing, the crop look excellent with Jalapenos, Dorset Naga’s, Serrano, Hot Wax, Orange Habaneros all growing well.

Matt Simpson of Simpsons Seeds was providing advice on growing chillies and had also set-up a tasting area where you could try a range of different flavours for comparison, this worked exceeding well, you can read Matt’s article on how to set this up by following this link.

The Upton Cheyney Chilli Company stall was well stocked with their products as well as some interesting cheeses and Dave’s Chilli Oil, all of which you could taste before you buy, their product are truly excellent and I enjoyed trying them (Some reviews to come soon).

There was lots to entertain the children, with a Bouncy Castle and Slide, Face Painting, Bobbing for apples, and Pony Rides, but I think they had a lot more visitors than expected and the queue’s for these became a little long for some of the smaller children, or course for the older much children there was a well stocked bar and the event continues into the evening with live music from “Journey Up The Wood”.

We could not stay until the evening, but I am sure they will have had a fun time.

The event was well organised, but needs a few more stands from other vendors to make it a regular chilli event for us, we look forward to seeing the plans for next year.
