Heinz Beanz - Sweet Chilli

I think most of us have lived with Heinz Baked beans all of our lives, I have made the odd excursion to another brand, but always seem to come back the one I know best Heinz!

Over the years all sorts of things have been done to or with beans, from mini sausages and bits of black pudding to being put on frozen Pizza’s.

This time Heinz has does what I suspect many of us have been doing at home with our own sweet Chilli sauces, they have added “the exciting taste of Sweet Chilli” to quote the can.

Ingredients: Beans (50%), Tomatoes (27%), Water, Sugar, Red Peppers (2%), Modified Cornflour, Salt, Sprit Vinegar, Chilli Powder, Spices, Onion Powder, Colours – Plain Caramel and Paprika Extract, Sweetener – Sucralose.

I served my beanz in the UK traditional way, on toast in front of the TV, I was surprised how much flavour I was getting from the chillies, it is not hot, but I could taste a cayenne style peppery over tone, also it was not as sweet as I was expecting, which in my mind as a good thing, as it would be to easy to over sweeten this.

The sauce around the beanz was a little darker that normal and contains little flecks of chilli, but is otherwise the same consistency as normal Heinz Beanz

While this effect is not hard to do yourself with a normal can of beanz and some chilli sauce, this was a well balanced and made a great lunch.

I suspect these are available in all supermarkets, I picked up this tin in Tesco’s (I think!).

Yes, we used to love them with a passion – this has disappeared off the shelves!

They are the best ever but I think Heinz have discontinued these baked beans as Coles and Woolworths dont stock anymore and neither do IGA. PITY
