Having developed and sold my own spice mixes I was ready not to like this, I have purchased mixes like this in the past and they tend to wimp out during cooking.

Discovery Foods Mexican Wicked Chilli Spice Mix

Discovery Foods Mexican Wicked Chilli Spice Mix

I carefully followed the instructions (I know very unusual for me), Chopped and fried a large onion until browned, then added the meat and cooked until sealed (i.e. no red meat showing). Once Sealed we can add the spice mix and stir well, we then added a tin of chopped tomatoes and a little water (2ml in the instructions, that’s less than a teaspoon!!) and let cook down for 25 mins or until the liquid has evaporated, Finally we added a tin of red kidney beans (Drained and washed) leaving it to simmer for a further 5 minutes.

Ingredients: Ground Cumin, Salt, Corn Flour, Ground Chilli Pepper (13%), Oregano, Cilantro, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Ground Jalapeño Chilli (1%), Paprika Powder, Ground Black Pepper.

Well how did it taste….

Not bad at all, not very hot, but hot enough to put off small children, you can definately taste the cumin and the chillies, but at only 1% there is none of the Jalapeño flavour to be found. We had it on top of jacket potatoes and for that is was excellent.

This kind of spice mix is not hard to make yourself, but this is cheap and readily available in most supermarkets, so if you see it, don’t do what I did and turn your nose up, give it a try.

Note: Saved some in the fridge overnight and warmed it up again, much much better depth of flavour and warmth, even better on the second day, this needs to be part of the cooking process 🙂

Where can I purchase this “Mexican Wicked Chilli Spice Mix” either online or in store. Use to purchase the jar sauce from several places then over time they all stopped selling it?

Many Thanks
