Veeraswamy Mango Chilli Chutney

Veeraswamy Mango Chilli Chutney

Veeraswamy is Britain’s oldest Indian restaurant opening in 1929, their range of Chutneys are distributed by Bart Spices and includes Garlic Masala, Lime Chilli, Green Chilli, Mango Bengal Spice and the one I am tasting today Mango Chilli Chutney.

We all know the over sweet sticky chutney we find on supermarket shelves, or in a small pot of condiments in our local Indian restaurant, well this is not like any of those products.

Ingredients: Sugar, Mango (30%), Red Chilli (11%), Salt, Lime Juice, Spices (Ginger, Garlic), Acetic Acid.

It is not as sweet, and has a darker Oxford marmalade colour, it is still sticky, but has nice pieces of chilli suspended in the mix, the ginger, garlic and lime juice giving it a richness you just don’t find in the cheaper sugar and mango gloop we are used to.

At only £1.99 per 300g jar it is not as expensive as it looks and well worth the extra 50p it costs to upgrade from the normal stuff. I cannot see me going back to normal Hot Mango Chutney after having tried this.

It is available in all good Deli’s and Supermarkets or direct from Bart Spices Web site
