8 Ball Hot Chilli Sauce

8 Ball Hot Chilli Sauce

Sooo, now i’m kinda back in the saddle, (hey! i have a busy life dontcha know!) I thought I’d do a review of a nice sauce that’s not so hot, this one comes to us from one of the better known UK company’s “The Chilli Pepper Company“, run by Gerald Fowler (also known as Ged to his mates, now obviously if you’re an avid reader of the Chilefoundry then you’ll know who Ged is, if not then take a look at this article, then come back and read this review!

Ingredients: Tomatoes, Carrots, Vinegar, Naga Jolokia Chilli, Pineapple Juice, Sweet Red Peppers, Lemon Juice, Tomato Puree, Sugar, Salt, Spices, Garlic.

Now, this little sauce proclaims itself to be in the “Hot Chilli Sauce” category, however i disagree! “8 Ball” is a sauce that i feel is more suited to the “Padawan” category, it’s a sauce that is more for those tired of mass market bullshit and who want to break into the underworld of non-mainstream chilli products, but let me tell you it does a wonderful job!

The sauce itself is a nice rich orange colour with black flecks here and there, the label is glossy and professionally designed with a flaming 8 ball on the front, its presented in a UK standard 140ml hot sauce bottle that is used across most of the chilli pepper company’s range, when i twisted off the cap and took a whiff there was a telltale smell of Naga and definitely some tomato, but there was something else, something sweet.. so I took a sip to find out what it was!

After taking a hearty gulp of the sauce (for this is mild to ones such as myself so a good swig was necessary to get the full effect!) the mystery flavour hit me like a smack from Mike Tyson…CINNAMON!!! I had never tasted cinnamon in a sauce before so this was new to me and I have to say i really liked it, it made a definite change from the usual onions and garlic you find in most hot sauces.

I liked this sauce quite a bit, in fact I’ve been drinking it as I wrote this interview.. actually thinking about it now it would make and AWESOME Bloody Mary!! seriously, I like BM’s and I reckon this would make a cracking one,. it has the flavour and consistency of tomato juice with the cinnamon in there too i reckon this is a winner!!

I would compare this sauce to something else but I don’t think I can, I believe this sauce is either only available at chilli festivals that CPC attend, or isn’t for general sale as I can’t see the product on their website, but at whatever this sauce is priced at its a lovely starter sauce and makes a good BM too, so i would suggest sending the CPC an email or phone em and tell em Darth Naga said “8 Ball is awesome” and then ask if you can buy a bottle, heck I may even give Ged a call myself to see what the situation is and then update this review when I know more!!

Until next time my loyal chilefanz, have a good one and may the sauce be with you!!
