El Yucateco – Green Habanero Sauce

Hi again Chileheadz!! Darth Naga here with another review to whet ya taste buds!! (or burn them out if you so desire!)

Today i’m gonna tell you all about a sauce i have received that comes from a company in mexico known as “El Yucateco”, the company was formed in 1968 by one Priamo Gamboa, it started as a small family business but soon grew to become a world renowned company famous for its flavoursome habanero sauces that it exports all over the world!

As a side not the website is really well done and eye catching, its always nice when reviewing these sauces to see they have a proper web presence and not just a site thrown together in five minutes!

Anyway, the sauce i’m tasting here is the “Hot sauce salsa picante de chile habanero” sauce..although i would simply call it their “Green habanero sauce” as they do on the website! Now the first thing you will notice when you try this sauce is that its green…REALLY green and the label uses nice primary colours such as yellow red and blue to create a nice eye-catching bottle of sauce. Once you get past that and open the bottle there’s a beautiful fruity/peppery aroma of fresh habaneros and the unmistakeable scent of garlic, it smells lovely and i soon found it tastes as good as it smells!

Green habanero pepper, water, salt, garlic, spices, acetic acid, fd&c yellow 5, fd&c blue 1 and sodium benzoate as a preservative.

The first time you try this the garlic flavour hits you along with the punch of habanero heat..but unlike some others this sauce is clearly holding its own more with flavour than heat, but that is’nt to say its not hot, because it is, its just that the taste is much more obvious.
I can honeslty say that at this time this is the only sauce of this kind that i’ve really tried so i can’t compare it to any other as it has such a unique flavour, if i absolutely had to compare it then i could say that its similar to  green tabasco sauce but with more heat and a higher concentration of flavour.
This sauce is an excellent value low heat range sauce that you can pick up for around £4 from www.scorchio.co.uk, www.hot-headz.com and www.lupepintos.com

This a sauce i would definitely buy as it has a unique flavour and is a lovely colour despite being foodcolouring based, it still catches the eye and would like nice in any Chile Padawans cupboard, this is the sauce for you if you think tabasco is too mild for your tastes!

Until next time chileheadz, may the flames be with you!!!
