During another trawl through the supermarkets, I visited ASDA and found to my surprise “ASDA Sun-dried tomato and chipotle chilli flavour crisps”. I love Chipotles; it is one of my favourite flavours.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of Chipotle in the bag, you can taste it, but it is far too little to be very interesting, that is not to say they are a bad crisp, the flavour is tasty and it is on a very good quality crisp.

Potatoes (63%), Sunflower Oil, Mediterranean Sun-dried Tomato and Chilli Flavour [Sugar, Salt, Dexteose, Yeast Extract, Maltodexrin, Onion Powder, Mediterranean Sun-dried Tomato Powder [Sun-dried Tomatoes, Rice Flour, Spice Extracts], Garlic Powder, Citric Acid, Chilli Powder, Anti-Caking Agents (Calcium Phosphates, Silicon Dioxide), natural Flavourings, Herbs, Sunflower oil, Colour (Paprika Rxtract), Chipotle Chilli Extract].

I have a little expertise with crisps, I worked for a few years with an great company Glennan’s (A boutique crisp manufacturer) to develop our Hot-Juan range of crisps which included both a Chipotle and a Habanero flavoured versions. ASDA need to up the Chipotle a few % and these crisps would be fantastic.

Also how may ASDA (or any supermarket) customer know what a Chipotle chilli is and the packaging dose nothing to help, in fact Chipotle is the last ingredient in the list (and therefore the smallest in quantity).

P.S. If anyone wants to make and sell the Hot-Juan crisps, let me know.
