Nando's Extra Extra Hot Peri Peri Sauce

Nando's Extra Extra Hot Peri Peri Sauce

My family likes going to the Nando’s (Portuguese flame-grilled, Peri-Peri Chicken) Resturant chain, and it is great to see a chilli restaurants doing so well in the UK.

Unfortunately this “Extra Extra Hot” sauce does not live up to its name, it may be hotter than the restaurant’s “Extra Hot” Sauce, but I doubt it, having said that is does have a very pleasant citrus flavour, with a warm after taste, not at all unpleasant.

Ingredients:
Water, Vinegar, salt, lemon, African Bird’s eye Chilli (Peri Peri chilli), Onion, Cayenne Pepper, Vegetable Oil, Dehydrated Green Pepper, Paprika, Garlic, Thickner (Modified food starch), Stabilisers (Xanthan Gum, Propylene Glycol Alginate).

“Peri Peri” translates to “Hot Hot” and lots of chillies seem to come under this general name, it is nice to see that Nando’s name the variety they used as Bird’s Eye

It has a lightly thickened consistency, with seeds and small flecks of chilli suspended in the mix, the lemon flavour comes across at first taste and is followed by a nice warm burn from the chillies.

While there is not much hear for the harden chilli head that needs heat at any cost, they would just drink it by the bottle. But it is a tasty sauce, very much in the Nando’s style, good for a family BBQ and will probably sell very well.
